Smoke systems. The evacuation of smoke and hot gases (smokelessness) is the process of extracting from the burned spaces a part of the smoke and the flue gases. The purpose is to ensure the conditions of evacuation of the users and the use of the means of intervention to extinguish, as well as for the evacuation of the hot gases arising from the fire during the development phases.

The design and implementation of these installations, as means of fire protection, ensures first and foremost the smoke-free maintenance of the escape and access routes, as well as the efficiency of the intervention for extinguishing the fire in its incipient phase. In addition, smoke and hot gas exhaust systems help reduce the generalized combustion effect, protect equipment and furniture and ultimately reduce the damage caused by thermal decomposition.

Smoking can be done naturally or mechanically:

  1.  The natural smoking (by organized natural circulation) is achieved by the evacuation of the smoke and the introduction of fresh air, directly or through the piping having direct connection with the outside, realized in such a way as to ensure a satisfactory elimination of the smoke from the respective space;

The natural evacuation of smoke can be done through one of the following systems:

  • through the windows in the front
  • through hatches on the roof
  • through mouths of smoke evacuation

The introduction of fresh air (also called clearing air) can be done through one of the following systems:

  • through the blurring windows in the façade;
  •  through the doors of the space that are fading, which face outwards or to volumes that can be easily ventilated
  •  through open stairs
  •  through inlets

          2) Mechanical smoking (by mechanical draft) is ensured by the mechanical extraction of smoke and the introduction of fresh air naturally or also mechanically, with devices so arranged as to ensure a breakdown of the volume considered.

Mechanical smoking and smoke management are performed with:

  • fire resistant flaps
  • you want to blur
  • fire resistant grilles.

Smoke systems. Smoke hatch types

Electric smoke hatch – has as an opening mechanism a 24V powered electric actuator.

Pneumatic smoke hatch – has a pneumatic piston opening mechanism that is operated by gas (CO2). The opening can be done with pneumatic impulse, by route copper pipe and CO bottle and / and with electrical impulse (24V).

The pyrotechnic smoke hatch – has the mechanism of opening a metal shaft inserted into a shell at the base of which an explosive charge is mounted. The opening can be done with pneumatic impulse, by route copper pipe and CO bottle and / and with electrical impulse (24V).

Mechanical smoke hatch – has the opening mechanism consisting of a tandem of 2 or 3 oil-pneumatic (telescope) springs – gas compression. The opening can be done with pneumatic impulse, by route copper pipe and CO bottle and / and with electrical impulse (24V).
